Community Meeting scheduled for July 29, 2008, at the Golden Rondelle

The finalist for the position of RUSD superintendent will visit Racine on July 28-29 for a series of meetings with school district and community constituents.  The candidate will meet in an open forum with interested community members including RUSD staff during a community reception and question-and-answer session.  This meeting is scheduled for 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Golden Rondelle, 1525 Howe Street.

We strongly urge all Association Representatives to RSVP (262) 260-2158 or rondelle@scj.com and attend the reception.   For those Representatives who attend, we request that they provide feedback directly to us by submitting comments using “Contact Us” at www.REA-REAA.org .  Comments should be submitted by noon on Wednesday, July 30, 2008.  Feedback about the candidate will be used in formulating REA leadership’s recommendation regarding the finalist for the superintendent position.

Please keep in mind the Racine Education Association position on the superintendent search:

The stability of the Racine Unified School District and continued progress on the four Quality Policy Objectives requires that any individual seriously considered for the Chief Executive Officer/Superintendent post should show evidence of a solid record of accomplishments.  These accomplishments should indicate that the person is the following:

1) Collaborative and a team player;

2) Open to thoughts and ideas that all stakeholders bring to administration;

3) Knowledgeable of best practices in the area of public school finance and budget activities; 

4) Knowledgeable of progressive school transformation ideas and willing to work with the Panasonic Foundation;

5) Capable of exercising independent professional judgment free from the influence of personal relationships with current district personnel.

It is important to note one additional criterion:  Candidates for the Chief Executive Officer/Superintendent post should not be persons who show evidence of a top-down or command and control management style.
